FETCH! Wine Walkabout Fundraiser
August , 2008

What's the best way you can think of to spend a relaxed and lovely August afternoon on Whidbey Island? The folks at FETCH!, Free Exercise Time for Canines and Their Humans, have a plan for one that's filled with exceptional wines, delicious food, friends old and new, live music and, of course, canines. It's the 4th Annual Wine Walkabout and all proceeds go directly to supporting the island's fine off-leash parks.

Tasting tables will be set around the charming grounds of Buchanan's vineyard showcasing five wines: Bohemian Highway, Barnard Griffin, Penfolds, Goats de Roam and Rosenblum Cellars. Palates will be also be treated to gourmet cheeses, breads, nuts, chocolate and fruit. And the dogs won't be left out of the fun either! Homemade gourmet dog treats and bowls of cool fresh water will be readily available at all tables.

Saunter around the pasture sipping and chatting or relax under a shady tree and enjoy the music. Well behaved dogs on-leash are not only welcome but encouraged to attend. There is a fenced off-leash area as well for those four legged friends who just must kick up their heels a bit!

The 4th annual FETCH! Wine Walkabout will be held Saturday, August 9, 2008, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Buchanan Vineyard, off Bayview Road in Langley. This event benefits FETCH! a grassroots not-for-profit organization which established and maintains Whidbey's five off-leash parks. FETCH! relies on membership and donation funding to support the parks. The cost is $20 per person in advance or $25 per person at the door, humans 21 or older only please. Tickets are available at Violet Fields, Bayview Arts, Vino d' Amoré and The Bayleaf.

Contact Patricia Buchanan, 360-321-2377 or fetch@whidbey.com.

Cheers!

GOOD NEWS!

Island County Parks has donated the materials needed to replace part of Clover Valley Dog Park fence. The new fence will be 4 foot chain link.

The plan is to replace the section of fencing that is between the outhouse and the North West corner of the park. (The wood/wire section of fencing.) We will also be replacing the double gate entrance and creating a fenced area for small dogs only.

There will be three phases to this project, which will occur on three different weekends. Volunteers will be needed and appreciated to assist with various tasks.

Phase 1: Digging Post Holes
We are working to schedule a time when a post digger machine can help us to dig holes for the new posts.

Phase 2: Setting In/Concreting Posts
We are working to schedule a date to have concrete delivered to set the posts into.

Phase 3: Stretching Fencing
Top rails will be installed and the chain link fence will be stretched onto the posts.

We have not yet scheduled when the project is to begin. The posthole digger and concrete truck need to be scheduled before we will be able to plan our workdays and then we will need volunteer help. We will keep you posted on plans and any changes.

*We plan to do this in a way that closure of the park will not be necessary. If a short term closure is needed we will post closure dates and times prior to the closure.

For more information or to volunteer please email us.
